raking light — light thrown across a surface at a low angle, where every ripple and shadow shows. It is how a finish gets judged, and how Marcel checks one before anyone packs up.

Walls, ceilings, doors and joinery finished to a standard that holds up in raking light and close inspection.

Weatherboard, plaster, cedar and steel — coating systems chosen for how a surface will actually age in a Taupō climate.

Fretwork, finials, pressed tin and original timber, cut in by hand where a spray gun is the wrong answer.
